One of the key aspects in betting during horse races is the field size. If you are entirely a novice, chances are that you are not aware of the distinct fields and distinct horses as much. Therefore, it is safe if you stick to small field races. This is because the more the horses in a field, the more the selections, the harder it is to chose a horse to place your bet on. Given you are doing it for monetary or economic reasons, you have to scrutinize to know more about all the horses in a racing field.
Moreover, you will spend more time on one race if you go for the bigger fields. In small fields, you can easily make your pick and move on to the next horse race. This way, you are able to learn more information, and chances are that you will not lose your first bet. There is also the issue of traffic in bigger horse field races. These horses are many, and the possibility of some falling or going off the track is extremely high. You can never tell what can happen in such races. On the other hand, in small field races, there is little or no traffic. You can be certain that your chosen horse will finish the race, and possibly win.
It is extremely significant for you to do some extensive research, mainly through previous horse racing results, before placing any bet. You have to find information about each promising horse, and its results for distinct races. Compare the results of distinct horses side by side to ensure you pick the best. You can only do this if you have few horses to compare. Therefore, as a beginner, small field races will be your best bet. Remember you are doing this for the money and not entirely for the fun of it.
